The Jump Serve Drill. The jump serve is something we think most kids will rate high on the ol’ “wow, that’s really cool” scale. Again, fun = engagement…but you already knew that. Stand along the service line and with a player behind the line, throw the ball in the air and yell “left” or “right.”.
A great drill for middle schoolers is to line them up in three lines. One on each side of the court and one line down the middle. Have them stand a little ways behind the attack line and have the coach or an experienced helper stand in the middle where a setter would stand.

This drill is also called belly run through, in which three players need to lie flat on one side of the ground (facing the nets). Other three players should stand just in front of the net, facing the players who are lying down.

In addition to the major volleyball strokes, the players should be, like any other sports, light on the feet. This drill intends to impart agility, stamina, and controlled-passing ability among the middle school volleyball players. Though a little demanding drill physically, it promises to prepare the kids into becoming complete volleyball players.
At the middle school level, developing a consistent underhand serve will help you keep the ball in play. Underhand drills can be performed by serving the ball to three spots on the opposite side of the net. Mark these spots by placing hula hoops at three different distances on the court.
Split up two teams evenly of any number, say 5 vs 5, and have each team go to opposite serving lines. For 5 vs 5 I would recommend about 6 volleyballs. The teams line up and serve one at a time. If their serve goes in, they go back to the end of the line on their own side.
